MARIONETTE

The idea for this piece came from seeing and hearing a street busker who was manipulating a puppet on strings while playing a very simple tune on a mouth-organ.  The puppet performs a series of short dances, with a pause between them, finishing with a brief spurt before collapsing in a pile of wood and string.  This is not the busker’s tune, but one adapted to the banjo where the octave string helps to emphasise the jerky movements of the marionette.
