Marche de Concert

MARCHE  DE  CONCERT

Olly Oakley was the stage name of Joseph Sharpe, one of the most popular players of the Edwardian period.   He changed his name by Deed Poll, and under that name and various pseudonyms, he made more gramophone records than any other banjoist.   He used his nails on a steel strung zither-banjo, and was not bothered by a few wrong notes or temporary forgetfulness, aiming more for speed and general grand effect.   This is one of his more difficult solos and, despite his vast output on wax, it does not appear in the list of his records.
