‘Aura Lee’

Arranged by David Cotton

All the good times are past and gone was written by Jerry Walter. The earliest recording I can trace was made by Fred and Gertrude Gossett and dates from 1930. It has been recorded under many variants of its title, including ‘All The Good Times Are Passed And Gone’ and  ‘All The Good Times Have Past And Gone’. Play it slowly and with feeling.

Aura Lee (sometimes known as Aura Lea) was written shortly after the American Civil War by George R. Poulton, with lyrics by W.W. Fosdick. It’s perhaps better known as Elvis Presley’s song ‘Love me Tender’.   Play it slowly, hand away from the bridge for a really mellow sound and build to a crescendo at the beginning of bar nine. Fingering marks are for guidance only.
