George Morris, a one-time pupil of Morley, recorded this piece in 1930, two years after its publication by J.E. Dallas.  Anyone who has listened to it will know that the repetitions of the first section become tedious—certainly to a non-player of the banjo—and musically, it can only be excused as an example of Rondo form.  The piece has three sections, each of eight bars, in the keys of G major, E minor and C major, with the third one, a simple arrangement of ‘The Keel Row’, repeated as an example of ‘rolling playing’.  Average players should have no trouble technically, especially if they follow Morley’s fingering in the third section.  The ending is dreadfully trite, although when Morley wrote it in 1928, it was probably accepted as a big joke. And, as always, you don’t have to play all the repeats!
