Gladiolus
GLADIOLUS
The original of this publication was a manuscript owned by F.C. Musselbrook, a member of the London Banjo Club when Joe Morley was President. Like so many members at the time, he was happy to pay Morley for a copy of an unpublished composition, but this one has a wealth of dynamic indications which Musselbrook probably added, because Morley rarely put many dynamics on his manuscripts. This is a quiet, gentle piece, so the dynamics are important, and have been retained regardless of the author. There are three main sections in G, D, and C major, with nothing difficult apart from a long stretch in bar ten for players with small hands, but if you like playing pieces such as the famous ‘Pompadour’, then this is another one you can enjoy.
