Georgia Medley
GEORGIA MEDLEY
This piece probably takes its name from a neat arrangement of ‘Marching Through Georgia’, and includes old time favourites such as ‘Nellie Gray’ and ‘The Old Folks at Home’. It also has a rousing version of ‘There is a Tavern in the Town’, but the connection of that particular song with Georgia escapes me. The Medley starts with a short section of an original Morley tune in the key of G, modulates into C for ‘Nellie Gray’, then goes back to G in order to March through Georgia, and finally reverts to C again for the last two songs. There are no technical problems with the solo, and average players should soon have it at their fingertips, with an appreciative audience tapping feet, or even singing along to it.
