Genesis:- years ago, I heard an old timey tune (called Rising Damp) – don’t know where or when, but I remember trying to play it when I got home. I think I got just the first couple of bars about right. Some months later, this formed the basis for a piece which was NOT Rising Damp, but a little bit like it, possibly. So why not call it Falling Dry? (Rhetorical, – I know there are plenty of reasons why not.)
So what we have is a mixture of old-time and bluegrass. The piece is not difficult, although some of the fingerings might be unusual at first, and therefore seem difficult. It begins as old timey, the melody being played plainly, without decoration. A point of early interest is the suggested choice of string, – eg bar 3, choosing the 4th string fret 9, for the A. This choice (and others throughout) help make the notes flow smoothly rather than pizzicato-like.
I think that most of the fingering is clear, without illustration, but I have added suggestions where this seems needed, eg bar 13, in which there are many choices of string, – the one choice suggested will help the notes flow smoothly. Similarly for bars 16 and 17.
It gets a bit melodic-bluegrassy from bar 29, and I have added accents to give an idea of what I have in mind.
