Billet d’Amour
BILLET d’AMOUR
There is a cylinder recording of Morley playing this piece in 1918, but there are considerable differences from the manuscript copies which have survived, so he must have made some revisions later. The piece is in two parts, with the first consisting of a short slow Introduction of seven bars in Common time. There are then four bars of an ‘until ready’ accompaniment, leading into the second part, which is a fast waltz in four sections, with a short Interlude, and a lengthy Coda. The Introduction and three of the sections are in the key of G Major, while the Interlude, one section and the Coda are in the key of C major. It is of moderate difficulty, and the average player should have no problems with it.
