Three Ragtime Melodies
THREE RAGTIME MELODIES
This is an arrangements of three popular songs of the 1900’s, combined as a medley, and found as a manuscript among the unpublished files of Clifford Essex. According to Steve Walker, an authority on the music of that period, it was almost certainly written by Vess Ossman, and given to Clifford Essex on the second visit by the American virtuoso to England in 1903. The first and third songs are ‘When Mr. Shakespeare Comes to Town’ and ‘Go ’Way Back and Sit Down’, but the second one has not been identified. The medley uses the keys of C and F major, and is great fun to play, although there are some quick shifts required in places, so it is not really a piece for beginners.
