The Grafton Parade
THE GRAFTON PARADE
In the days of the Minstrels and Pierrots a Parade was the usual way to open the show: the whole company would march around the stage to the accompaniment of a rousing tune such as this. It is written in six-eight time, using the keys of F and B flat major, and is one of the seven solos originally published by Clifford Essex in 1900, using Morley’s name and address. Although it is over a hundred years old, it is still well worth playing, and is guaranteed to get the feet of a modern audience tapping, just as it must have done when Morley first played it.
