Slip Along Polka

Although this piece was originally published about 1900 with Morley’s home address on the cover, it was probably written several years before, possibly while Morley was playing with one of the minstrel troupes about 1890.   When you hear this solo, it is easy to understand why Morley was so popular as a player and composer, because it is far in advance of the average minstrel piece of the period.

There are three main sections in C, G, and F major, and there is an early example of a Morley bridge passage of eight bars sandwiched between two hearings of the Trio.   Some of the fingering directions are unusual but necessary if the piece is to be played at ‘Morley Speed’, so this edition has been generously marked for both right and left hands.
