RUBIANA

A version of this little-known Morley solo appeared in a BMG supplement about fifty years ago, with the credit line ‘Edited by George Morris’.   The piece was never published by any of the main fretted instrument firms, so we must suppose that Morris, as a one-time pupil of Morley, had a manuscript copy.  Unfortunately the BMG version contained a couple of  obvious wrong notes, and several other errors, — mainly in the fingering, so the present publication may be considered a definitive one, unless an original manuscript in Morley’s hand is found.

It is an attractive tune, and deserves to be more widely known.   The average banjoist should be able to play and enjoy the piece after a little careful practise.
