Rubbin’ Shoulders

RUBBIN’ SHOULDERS

This is a typical Frank Lawes syncopated solo, but the title is significant because the piece is dedicated to the Fraternity of Five string Banjoists of America, despite the fact that Lawes was famous for playing fingerstyle solos on a four string banjo !   There is plenty of interesting left-hand work in this tuneful, foot-tapping solo in which Lawes, who had an amazing left-hand technique,  marks the fifth string to be used occasionally, in deference to lesser mortals.   You can hear it played superbly by Elias Sibley on the CD of solos available from Clifford Essex.
