Musketeer’s March
MUSKETEER’S MARCH
Versions of this solo have appeared in BMG in 1961 and 1976, (notation only, of course) and are virtually the same except for their titles, and an interesting extra four bars in the later one, which was called ‘Thumb and Fingertricks’. There are three main sections in C major, A minor and F major, with a twelve-bar bridge passage connecting two renditions of the F major movement. The last four bars of the bridge are the ‘extras’, consisting of a typical Morley chromatic run which some players may prefer to omit, since they do require a good technique to play them at speed and with confidence. But they are well worth mastering because they make a brilliant flourish to the end of the passage as it returns to repeat the third movement. One of Morley’s best.
