As with ‘Camptown Carnival’ and ‘The Jovial Huntsman’ Morley includes some well-known tunes in this aptly named solo. The first two sections are original Morley compositions, and these are followed by four arrangements, labelled ‘South African’, ‘Irish Reel’, ‘Scotland’, and ‘Marching to Pretoria’, while the piece ends with a repeat of the Morley sections. The solo alternates between the keys of G and C major, and is easy to play, making it a good choice for public performance, where the well-known tunes will be appreciated by a non-banjo playing audience.
