The aim of this album is to provide guitarists with a number of short, tuneful pieces which can be used for improving their technique, much like the Studies of Carulli and Carcassi, but written in a modern idiom with a wider variety of styles, ranging from Barcarolle, Irish jig, and Lullaby, to a hymn-like ‘Meditation’.

They should be played carefully, with attention given to the position of the hands and fingers, while listening closely to the sounds produced, and the objective should be as musical a rendition as possible.

The pieces have suggested dynamics indicated, some of them fairly basic, but players are encouraged to experiment with different tempi and volume levels, according to taste. The pieces can also be used for sight-reading practice, provided they are not played too often.

The numbers in the headings correspond with the tracks on the audio recordings, which was produced digitally, directly from the music program used to print the pieces, so they are all note perfect, although, as mentioned above, players may wish to introduce their own dynamics.
