Elfaletha

‘ELFALETHA’
By Joe Morley

It has been remarked that Joe Morley could write tuneful solos with great facility, but he had difficulty in thinking of titles.   It is known that he had an interest in horse-racing, so it is not surprising to find that he used the names of racehorses for suitable solos.   There is no proof, but this corruption of ‘Hell-for-Leather’ sounds suspiciously like the name of a galloper, and it is easy to imagine Morley playing it with his usual clean picking and at a fairly fast tempo.   It is not a difficult solo, so the average banjoist should be able to achieve the speed and get a lot of enjoyment from this piece.
