Donkey Laugh
DONKEY LAUGH
This is probably Morley’s most famous novelty solo, embodying effects such as the slide, bridge rasp, drum tap, and a fourth string ‘buzz’ which sounds like a good old-fashioned ‘raspberry’. It was played on the only record made by the composer back in 1925, and was chosen because of its popularity among banjoists. Part of the attraction to the amateur is that the solo is not difficult to play, and is always appreciated by audiences. This is another solo which should be in every banjoist’s repertoire.
