‘Aquarelle’ is the French word for a water-colour, so giving the name to a piece of music suggests that it has a light, delicate texture. That is a reasonable description of these two short pieces which are very different from the usual type of banjo solo, offering a rare opportunity for the musicianly player to demonstrate the capabilities of the instrument. They are written in a fairly modern idiom with some interesting and unusual chords, using the keys of C and F major.
