Court Beauties Gavotte
COURT BEAUTIES GAVOTTE
This is one of Joe Morley’s early compositions with the fourth string tuned to D. It was probably written in the early 1890s when he was still playing a six or seven stringed banjo with one of the bass strings permanently tuned to D. As its title suggests, it is a gentle piece and should be played delicately. Morley marked it ‘Moderato con grazia’ and added suitable dynamics, — something missing from many of his later solos. The three movements are in C, G and F major and, although there are some unusual (but obviously intentional) chords, it can be played and enjoyed by players of all abilities.
