CORN COB PARADE

The list of Morley solos on the front cover of the original music shows this title in full, but on the first page, above the music, the word ‘Parade’ is shown in smaller type below the first two words, as if Morley was making the point that the piece was intended to be used for the usual ‘walk round’ or ‘parade’ presented by seaside concert parties, in which the whole company appeared. A rousing march was required for this part of the show, and ‘Corn Cob’ is certainly fit for the purpose, providing three tuneful sections, one of which is a memorable melody played mainly on the third string.

The solo is not difficult, and has a happy sound to it, from the opening trumpet-like fanfare through to the catchy ending.
