Aria & Intrada
‘ARIA & INTRADA’
Arranged by Alonso Medio
Two pieces from the Eighteenth Century. These solos are both presented in Notation and Tablature which can be very useful for players who can cross reference things such as fingering, positions and the appropriate string to use, where it may not be obvious.
The Aria comes from the collection of keyboard pieces in the Anna Magdalena Bach Book of 1725. It was apparently written by Bach’s youngest son, Johann Christian, and is very easy to play on the guitar. Some of the long minims would have received ornamentation on the keyboard, and more experienced guitarists could enhance the piece (and exercise their technique) by adding trills, shakes, or appoggiaturas in suitable places.
Little is known of the Intrada except the title and approximate date of composition. It is a beautiful melody, and well worth playing.
