A Sonnet
A SONNET
A.D. Cammeyer wrote a great deal of very tuneful music for the banjo, and this is one of his short solos with a typically memorable melody. It is in two parts, with the first section consisting of contrasting phrases alternating between forte and piano. This acts as an introduction to the song-like melody of the second part which, once you have heard it two or three times, is the kind you find yourself whistling or humming long afterwards. This is one of Cammeyer’s comparatively few solos written with the bass string tuned to C, and is quite easy to play.
