This solo has similarities to Morley’s ‘Blackbird’ but is not so difficult, although there are some quick shifts required in places, and an interesting chromatic run to finish. The piece makes good use of two keys which sound well on the banjo; B flat and E flat, with their relative minors, G and C. It is a fine solo, and if you are an average banjoist you will find it a satisfying challenge and well worth playing.
