Pep
PEP
An original manuscript of this solo was almost certainly held by the original Clifford Essex Music Company, the publisher of ‘B.M.G.’, in which this solo appeared as part of the music supplement in January 1937, a few months before Morley died. Among Morley’s professional friends were Will Pepper and his sons, and the younger brother Dick, played with Morley in the Kentucky Minstrels Banjo Team, and is believed to have been known as ‘Pep’ to his friends.
The piece is a tuneful march with three main sections in the keys of C major, A minor, and F major, which should be played fairly briskly, although you are advised to start a little slower than the suggested tempo until you are familiar with it.
