A Footlight Favourite
A FOOTLIGHT FAVOURITE
Emile Grimshaw had a flair for inventing catchy titles to go with attractive tunes, and this is a good example of both. The piece begins in the key of G major with a rousing Introduction and first movement. The second section, written in the melody-note-and-chord style, is also in G and has some fingering which a beginner may find quite tricky if played at the suggested tempo. The third section is in C major and uses one of Grimshaw’s favourite tricks with the melody first played in the lower register, and then repeated an octave higher. A sixteen bar Interlude in A minor follows, and the piece is completed by a repeat of the third section. This is the kind of solo which should be in the repertoire of all banjoists.
